Private Foundations and Academic Institutions

The Gruter Institute receives support from private foundations for research and programmatic activities. These foundations include the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation, the Cerge Foundation, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Volkswagen Stiftung. Universities provide co-sponsored research funding and assistance for symposia, workshops, and conferences. Notable institutions who have participated in this capacity include Harvard University; the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences; University of California, San Francisco; Arizona State University Law School; Humboldt University, Berlin; George Mason University School of Law; and the University of California, Berkeley.

Individuals

Several individuals have made multi-year grants to support research programs and/or conferences. As a non-profit institution, such contributions are tax-deductible and can be made directly by check to the Gruter Institute at the Portola Valley address listed below. The Gruter Institute is most appreciative of this support.

Government

Researchers attract grants each year from a variety of government agencies for specific research projects. Gruter Institute administration of such grants facilitates multidisciplinary collaborations between institutions at a minimal overhead cost.
